Three hours left in the day, four days left in the week, one month left until vacation. It can be hard to focus under these strenuous conditions. Here are a few things I do when life demands more than the attention span supplies.
Francesca Battistelli’s “This is the Stuff” is my bad day jam! On days when it feels like I am stumbling through life, I put down my pen and pick up this song. Once, maybe twice through, and I’m usually ready to go. I encourage you to find your own bad day tune, and when the road gets tough do not hesitate to hit play.
God Cares About My Spilled Coffee?
Actually, He cares about every area in our lives. When things pile up I dash away to my car, or a supply closet, or the ladies room, if I get desperate, and spend a couple of minutes with the Lord. And bada bing, bada boom… I zip out of there feeling like superman leaving a phone booth, ready to face the rest of my day.
Joshua 1:8 tells us to meditate on the word day and night. So I pick an uplifting verse, find a quiet place to hide and run the scripture through my mind. In just a snap my confidence goes up and takes my focus with it.
When I get intimidated about all that needs to be done I pause to write a check list. Something about seeing tasks on paper and not swarming around my head makes it less daunting. Then I clear my work area and leave the one thing that is the most important. It only takes a few minutes and it allows me to really give each task my undivided attention going forward.
Each of these takes 5 minutes or less and at times I double up. I listen to my bad day play list while I reorganize my desk, or split my 5 minutes between prayer and meditation. Either way I hope you find this helpful and don’t forget to comment below and let me know what you do to refocus and recharge!
