Its Not Easy, But it is That Simple

Take a journey with me back in time. A time before the word google became a socially acceptable verb. We are talking cassette tapes and VCRs. An era most affectionately know as the 90’s. In this long passed era slideshows were actually made of plastic like sheets you would slide off the projector before you slid another in its place.

You see I grew up in that era. As a little girl in my dads church I manned the overhead projector with pride during praise and worship. During that time we sang a song called Whose Report Shall You Believe by Ron Kenoly. Faith filled our hearts and became a tangible presence throughout that sanctuary. Eight times Ron would ask us whose report we would believe and with a chorus of confidence we answered we shall believe the report of the Lord!

It was that simple, it wasn’t until much later in life that I learned that it is not that easy. The word of God is clear. Forgive those whose hurt you, trust that God will work all things for your good.

How do you forgive someone whose is not even sorry that they have hurt you. How do you see Gods provision in a sequence of events that seems jaded and unfair?

First we need to realize that trusting God is a choice, not a feeling. Many days we do not feel like getting out of bed and going to work, but we do any way. We know that if we do not override our feelings in this regard that we forfeit the ability to receive pay and will not be able to cover expenses in some area of our lives. If you do not override the desire to act and believe contrary to the word of God we forfeit the ability to see victory.

God will not force us to do this. Actually in Psalm 32:9 he tells us not to be like a horse and mule who has to be physically led to do the right thing each time. Instead he asks us to trust him and gives us a  promise. Rejoice and be glad. It’s not a command to be happy. Its more along the lines of go to work and get paid. When we choose to praise God and focus on him instead of our situation than joy and gladness will come. Switching our focus to him and his promises protects us from growing weary in well doing so we can open the door and allow victory in our lives.

Focus on God. Trust his word. Praise him for his goodness. Its not always easy, but it is that simple.
