Do you set New Year’s resolutions? I have to be honest the last few years I have not. I bought into a concept that the tradition was a waste time. After all I have never personally completed any of my goals.
Recently I have begun to see a different perspective on this thinking. I thought, refusing to set goals saved myself time and disappointment. Truthfully I was starting the year with a defeated attitude.
So what now? How do we remain positive and push forward in an area where we have experienced so much failure.
1) Put God first. The bible tells us in Psalm 1:2-3 that anyone who puts God first and chooses to meditate on his word opens the door for success. So involve God in your goal setting.
2) Start the year with goals and finish it strong. If you realize, come June, that you missed out on your goals do not be afraid to pick up where you left off. Maybe you go strong for a month and quit for two. Forcing your self to start again helps to build better habits. Before you know it two months down becomes one month down, and one month down becomes two weeks. Soon your good days will out weigh your bad.
3) Find a friend. Psalms 27:17 tells us that friends have the ability to sharpen us. Find someone who knows about your goals and give them permission to hold you accountable. When sharpening iron there is a lot of grinding that has to take place. Your friend may have pull you up by the boot straps, so to speak, but having someone in your corner is great way to experience success.
Remember, the word tells us we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength and with God all things are possible. So start you year with him and he will help you finish it strong.
